Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic and public talker. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site with videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic as well as an award-winning feminist for nearly 10 years. She was the co-creator and director-executive of Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit website that focuses on the role of women's roles in popular cultural narratives. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular media. She also seeks to educate people about internet-based harassment targeting women as well as marginalized groups of society. Sarkeesian, who holds an MS in Political and Social Thinking at York University, is also well-known as a sought-after public presenter. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Passionate about issues of gender, feminism and identity from at an early age, she created her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while still a student at the University. The woman with ambitions to start a web-based series on gender representation within video games, and was herself the victim for an online harassment campaign. However, the harassment didn't discourage her. The experience only strengthened her reputation as a feminist journalist. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for women's rights, she's been an award winner. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is an non-profit organization for education that examines female representations of pop culture.
